The other day when my mouse was sending me all over the place in search of the latest and greatest in the cycling world, I came across a few things that I think everyone should read. The first is a support your local bike shop article on the Ritte blog.
Some of my earliest memories are of loitering around one of my local shops in Texas, memorizing every chromoly inch of a jet-black Miyata 12-speed. I inundated the guy behind the counter with what must have been completely inane questions and spent so many hours under the shop’s roof it’s amazing they didn’t charge my folks for babysitting. When I was old enough my parents bought me a jet-black Dave Scott edition Ironman from a big-box store that was having a sale. I went back to the shop with the Miyata to show off my new ride and was hit for the first time how important it is to support your local mom and pop: even at my young age I could see they were disappointed to loose yet another customer to a huge chain store and I felt pretty shitty for contributing to their eventual demise.
